Well folks, we have done plenty of wine pairings with food, but we honestly haven’t given much love for beer/food pairings! We find this to be really nice because 1) it is obviously different from wine and 2) it’s not reserved for fancy restaurants or professional sommeliers; anyone can do it, and it’s a ton of fun!
Let’s dive into some cool pairings that will tantalize your taste buds.
1. IPA and Spicy Tacos:
•Grab a hoppy India Pale Ale (IPA) and a plate of your favorite spicy tacos. The hops in the IPA complement the heat of the tacos, and the citrusy notes provide a refreshing contrast. It’s a match made in heaven for those who love a bit of spice in their life. Spicy birria tacos and IPA’s are money!
2. Stout and Chocolate Desserts:
•Dark chocolate brownies, chocolate lava cake, or even a simple bar of dark chocolate can be taken to the next level with a rich stout. The roasted flavors of the beer enhance the chocolate’s richness, creating a decadent experience. This is a heavy dessert vibe, so save some room for it!
3. Wheat Beer and Seafood:
•A light and crisp wheat beer, often with hints of citrus and coriander, is the perfect companion for seafood dishes. Whether it’s shrimp scampi, grilled fish, or even sushi, the refreshing qualities of wheat beer cleanse your palate between bites. Blue moon and shellfish is classsssss.
4. Saison and Farmhouse Cheese:
•Saisons, with their fruity and spicy notes, complement the earthy flavors of farmhouse cheeses like Brie, Camembert, or Gouda. The contrast of sweet and savory is sure to please your taste buds.
5. Pale Ale and Burgers:
•A classic pale ale pairs wonderfully with a juicy burger. The maltiness of the beer complements the meat, while the hoppy bitterness cuts through the richness of the cheese and condiments. It’s a burger lover’s dream.
6. Sour Beer and Fruit Salad:
•Sour beers bring a zesty and tart quality that enhances the freshness of fruit salad. Try pairing a fruity sour with a mixed fruit salad for a refreshing and tangy combination. This one is definitely more for the folks who don’t mind tart things!
7. Belgian Tripel and Spicy Thai Food:
•The sweetness and complexity of a Belgian Tripel harmonize beautifully with the bold flavors of spicy Thai cuisine. The beer’s effervescence helps cool the palate, making each bite a delightful adventure. This one is absolutely rich and loaded with flavor.
Remember, there are no hard and fast rules in craft beer pairing. It’s all about discovering what you enjoy and exploring the endless possibilities.
